Technology = Unresourceful

So I was on the A train at Jay Street when a couple of passengers boarded the car. Looking at how they were dressed I noticed they were used to riding on the newer subway cars with the stops listed at the top for everyone to see. Also, the guy was looking in a circle for some other indication of stops coming up other than the map he had in his hand. I chuckled to myself because he has become so accustomed to the computerized-voice that he looked genuinely lost despite being used to traveling in the subway.

Sadly we, as a human race, have become so technologically advanced that we're also becoming unresourceful and antisocial. I know because I see myself getting this way. We are losing the basic abilities to perform certain tasks. If you were to travel back into time to the early 90s, the use of a cellular device was indeed almost unheard of. If someone did possess one usage would have been minimal, it'd be the size of a brick (lol) and possibly connect to another device. The word wireless phone would only apply to house phones that had a small range of movement before you were disconnected.

The internet is another advancement that has made us become lazier. The easy, more affordable at-home access has prevented most of us from going to the library as often as we used to. Online books keep us from touching a real book. Heck, the fact that I can post stories, entries and poems have made me less prone to actual handwriting. Soon, as I read on twitter, writing will become a pastime or an "ancient" technique so few will remember to do. It's already affecting people's penmanship. No more neat penmanship. Everything will be digitalized.

We've gotten so unresourceful and lazy that we're making sneakers and some boots without shoelaces! They're appearing with more and more Velcro straps and slip-ons! (Unbelievable!) This soon-to-be unnecessary skill will be obsolete. I can definitely tell you my children will know how to tie AND double tie their shoes. There needs to be a medium between using technology and preserving some old traditions. There needs to be a way to keep intimacy between individuals. I feel, in soon enough time, we'll be like the movie "Surrogate" where we keep ourselves at home and live through a robot just to avoid human interaction. I'm not the type to force small talk but I will try and contribute to conversation and meeting face-to-face with someone.

Take a look around and just observe. You'll be able to see how introverted we've become physically. Technology = Unresourceful.

Do you know that soon we will have a generation that will not have a signature? They are soon doing away with the teaching of script in elementary schools, and by 2014 script will not be taught at all! O_o
